27 OCTOBER – 1 NOVEMBER 2008

The Centre for Contemporary Art, Lagos is pleased to present its first video art workshop programme for 2008/9. Following in the steps of its successful first workshop in Enugu in 2007, The One Minute Foundation will lead the training.

In 2008/9 the focus will be on video art presented through a three-part programme. We will work with experienced African and International video artists to lead the workshops and to talk about their work and present that of other artists. The workshop programme will take place over a 9-month period.

Introduction to Video Art: This will consist of a one-week collaboration with the One Minute Video Team based in the Netherlands who have successfully introduced the basics of video art to artists in over 12 African countries in the past 2 years.

Professional Video Art Workshop and Seminar: This is a 2-week intensive video workshop programme which will build practical video making skills and also focus on the aesthetic and contextual dimension of video art. The programme LINHAIMAGINÁRIA, (Imaginary Line) has been developed in collaboration with Amsterdam based Angolan artist Miguel Petchkovsky.

Video Art Exhibition. The exhibition presentation will be complemented by publication catalogue that documents the first 3- part video programme in Nigeria. It will constitute an important document that contextualises the development of video art as an embryonic but growing artistic medium not only in Nigeria but also in Africa.
