The Centre for Contemporary Arts, Lagos, invites readers, thinkers, artists, and curators to the second edition of the Unfinished Conversation Book Club, which will be chaired by Chinyere Obieze this May.
This edition will take its reading from the book “This Mournable Body” by Tsitsi Dangarembga, a novel that talks about memory, survival, womanhood, displacement, and the lingering effects of postcolonial realities.
Through the journey of its protagonist, the book opens difficult but necessary conversations around identity, aspiration, and the emotional weight of navigating contemporary African life.
A conversation style will be an open-floor conversation that will expand its scope into a multidisciplinary discussion around literature, music, theory, and food, also drawing inspiration from the works and ideas of Achille Mbembe, Simon Chimbetu, and Dzikamai Nyahunzvi.
We encourage participants to come prepared to read closely, reflect on the conversation, and ask questions within a shared community of readers and cultural practitioners.
