As Children’s Day approaches this month, the Centre for Contemporary Arts, Lagos, will, on the 26th of May, organise an event for children titled, NOK 2 NOW. A unique educational and creative experience aimed at introducing children to Nigeria’s rich artistic heritage through storytelling, interactive learning, and hands-on activities.

We want to take the children on an artistic expedition from the ancient Nok culture to contemporary Nigerian art practice. To achieve this, we will use creative storytelling and collaborative engagement in a simple format that will be accessible and exciting.

The children will take part in a guided reading and colouring session using a specially designed journal created for this purpose. This journal contains bite-sized information on the evolution of Nigerian art.

Reading and colouring activities will happen, promoting engagement, teamwork, and self-assurance. To make the program engaging, it will feature interactive art history sessions to educate the children on Nigerian art history. Participants will engage in a variety of activities, including hands-on art making, pretend archaeology and artefact creation, contemporary art creation, and more.

Children will receive special presents, such as branded tote bags and other items.

Lunch and snacks will be provided as well.

Our goal is to familiarise children with Nigeria’s artistic heritage through curiosity and creative expression.
