This August, CCA Lagos welcomes an extraordinary gathering of artists, thinkers, and listeners for The Listening Academy, Lagos — a 4-day event dedicated to exploring the transformative power of sound, slowness, and deep listening in the heart of one of the world’s most dynamic cities.
Titled “Go-Slow: Engaging the Imperceptible,” this year’s edition invites participants to slow down and listen — not just with their ears, but with their bodies, attention, and presence. Organized by The Listening Biennial in collaboration with TSA Ideas Lab, the Academy will unfold across both CCA Lagos and selected outdoor locations from August 13 to 16, 2025.
Why “Go-Slow”?
In Lagos, “go-slow” is often a term of frustration — a daily reality of traffic and delay. But what if we reimagined it as an invitation? A pause. A practice. A way to attune ourselves to what usually escapes our notice: the subtle, the slow, the sonic. This Academy asks: How can deep listening transform how we relate to the speed, sound, and overstimulation that shapes city life?
What to Expect
Participants will take part in:
- Sonic sessions and experimental soundscapes
- Workshops and embodied practices
- Thought-provoking readings and discussions
- An intimate performance to close the gathering
Featured contributors include internationally acclaimed artists and cultural workers like Brandon LaBelle, Amal Alhaag, Wana Udobang, Steffani Jemison, and many more.
