Seven Contemporary Artists from Africa

The Centre for Contemporary Art, Lagos (CCA,Lagos) in collaboration with Sakshi Gallery, Mumbai is pleased to present to a Mumbai audience its special projects initiative. "Chance Encounters, Seven Contemporary Artists from Africa" is an exhibition organised by Nigerian curator, Bisi Silva consisting of works by acclaimed artists; Berry Bickle (Zimbabwe), Safaa Erraus (Morocco), J.D. Okhai Ojeikere (Nigeria), Myriam Mihindou (Gabon), Nnenna Okore (Nigeria), El Anatsui (Ghana) and Uche Iroha (Nigeria).

Saturday July 25Curator's Talk: Gabi Ngcobo, Ford Fellow at Centre for Curatorial Studies, Bard College, New York.
The Centre For Contemporary Art, Lagos (CCA Lagos) is pleased to welcome South African curator Ms Ngcobo who will be talking about her curatorial practice, art in South Africa but also in New York. She will also talk about the work of South African photographer Zanele Muholi who was earlier in the year featured at the Centre for Contemporary Art, Lagos in the exhibition Like A Virgin... alongside Nigeria Artist Lucy Azubuike.
Workshops
2008/9 Video Art Workshop
In October 2008 CCA,Lagos ran its first one weeke video workshop in collaboration with the one minute video art foundation led by the Selby Gildemacher and Heerko van der Kooij. This was followed in January 2009 by a two week workshop developed by Angolan artist Miguel Petchkovsky Linha Imaginaria and co-led by Camerounian artist Goddy Leye and Brazilian artist Eustaquio Neves.
In october 2009 the final part of the video workshop will be an exhibition and the first project by CCA,Lagos' first curatorial trainees - Oyinda Fakeye and Hansi Loren Momodu and artist Jude Anogwih.

The library at CCA,Lagos is one the fastest growing specialist visual art resources in the West African Region. We currently have over 2500 books, catalogues, videos and over 25 local and international art magazines and journals. The library is an important visual art resource, archive and a specialist knowledge centre for artists, students, curators and researchers.
The library is for reference only and membership is available at different levels.
