CALL FOR PARTICIPATION
The Centre for Contemporary Art, Lagos presents History/Matter, its 2nd intensive 30 day international art programme, structured as part workshop, part residency and part art academy from 2nd to 28th May 2012
Deadline: Monday, January 9th, 2012, 5pm
General Information
The programme will prioritise experimentation on the classic forms of art such as painting and sculpture, so as to explore new ways of creative thinking, introduce new elements such as performance, installation & sound projects to explore new methodologies that foreground the conceptual and the critical possibilities of materiality. The focus is less on technique and more on methodology, critical thinking, conceptual ideas and their implementation.
Artists participating in History/Matter will be encouraged to consider the discursive nature of ‘history', not simply in terms of past events, narratives and occurrences but also, and primarily, as it relates to the present. What does 'History' mean to us? In addition, the focus on the critical role that materials play in the execution of ideas, will explore questions such as: How do we effectively use materials to convey our ideas within art making practices?
