‘Summer Breeze’ brings together a selection of works from our past programmes. In addition we add a new element through the introduction of the work of a recent graduate and an emerging artist Richardson Ovbiebo. Ovbiebo graduated in 2007 from Yaba College of Technology majoring in Sculpture. From 2008 until 2009 he completed his National Youth Service (NYSC) in the north of Nigeria among the Marghi people. During his 10 month visit he observed his new environment and surveyed the landscape and continued with his research. One thing he noticed was the multitude of bicycles – the primary means of transportation in this rural village – that after extensive use had been abandoned forming the main source of waste. Inspired by his readings of the conceptual experimentations of Duchamp and the works of artist Olu Amoda he began to appropriate and decontextualise these abandoned objects to create new forms and meanings. CCA, Lagos is pleased to present two of his sculptural adaptations using discarded bicycles and tomato tins, Keke andTorch Bearer as an introductory presentation within the overall programming.

Artists in the exhibition include Ghariokwu Lemi, Ndidi Dike, George Osodi, Lucy Azubuike, Krydz Ikwuemesi, Lasse Lau and Richardson Ovbiebo.Organised by Bisi Silva and Jude Anogwih.
